Skin cancer is the abnormal growth of skin cells, most often triggered by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. There are three main types of skin cancer:
1. **Basal cell carcinoma**: The most common type of skin cancer, usually appears as a small, shiny bump or nodule on the skin.
2. **Squamous cell carcinoma**: Another common form of skin cancer, often appears as a red, scaly patch or a raised bump.
3. **Melanoma**: The most dangerous type of skin cancer, develops from melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) and can spread rapidly to other parts of the body.
It is important to regularly check your skin for any changes or abnormalities, such as new moles, growths, or changes in existing moles. Early detection and treatment are crucial for a successful outcome in skin cancer cases. Protecting your skin from UV radiation by using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and avoiding excessive sun exposure can help reduce the risk of developing skin cancer. If you notice any concerning changes on your skin, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist for further evaluation and management.
